For general dentists

A recall visit is often the first time anyone looks closely at how a child’s bite is developing. If you notice one of the signs below, the family is welcome to see us.

What to look for

Signs the AAO lists as reasons for an orthodontic look. One is enough to refer.

  • Crossbite or a bite that’s off: open bite, deep bite, underbite
  • Crowded, misplaced or blocked-out teeth
  • Protruding front teeth
  • Mouth breathing
  • Thumb or finger-sucking habit that continues
  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Difficulty chewing or biting
  • Jaw that shifts or clicks
  • Biting the cheek or roof of the mouth
  • Facial imbalance or asymmetry

The simplest way to refer

  1. Mention the age 7 check at the 7-year well visit or dental recall.
  2. Hand the family our parent card. Tick any signs you noticed.
  3. Refer online, or the family can call or text us.

Families reach us by calling or texting. Please do not send a patient’s details to us by email.
